Joel S. Isaacson, Founder and CEO

Founder and CEO, Joel Isaacson, is considered by many to be a leader in the industry, helping clients and their families achieve their goals and sharing his knowledge with colleagues and the next generation of industry leaders. As a teacher as well as a practitioner, Joel is active in many industry organizations, having served on numerous boards and speaking on topics to share his insights, including: the New York Chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning, now FPA; Chairman of the Personal Financial Planning Committee of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants; the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Estate Planning Council. He has taught financial and tax planning at New York University, The New School in New York City, and Iona College.

He holds a BS in accounting from Lehigh University and a MBA in financial planning from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, where he was recently honored as their ‘man of the year’.

Frequently named one of America’s Top Financial Advisors by Worth magazine, Joel is often quoted in financial publications such as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Business Week and Fortune, as well as on radio and television.

In his spare time, Joel enjoys spending time with his family, taking in sporting and cultural events in and around the city, playing tennis and kayaking.

Stanley L. Altmark, Partner

Stanley L. Altmark, CPA, CFP®, PFS, is a Partner of the firm and its Chief Compliance Officer. Stan specializes in providing comprehensive financial, investment and tax planning solutions to clients, often times developing multi-generational strategies that reflect the values and needs of the client, their children and grandchildren.

Stan is an active member of numerous industry associations and has served on the Board of Directors of the Financial Planning Association – New York Chapter. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors, as well as the Estate Planning Council of NYC. Stan has frequently been selected as one of America’s Top Financial Advisors by Worth magazine. He has been quoted by the financial press and in financial publications on topics such as mutual fund investing strategies, asset allocation, life insurance and year-end tax planning.

Stan holds a BS in accounting from Franklin and Marshall College, and CFP certificates in financial planning from Adelphi University and the College for Financial Planning.

Stan currently lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his wife Jill, after raising their 2 children in Short Hills, New Jersey. Stan enjoys taking advantage of all the cultural events in New York City and traveling.

Martin Stein, Partner and Tax Director

Martin Stein, JD, CPA, CFP® is a Partner and Tax Director of the firm.

With over 30 years in the business, Marty is a seasoned tax professional. He is also admitted to practice as an attorney in the state of New York. In addition, Marty is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as various other professional and civic organizations.

He holds a BS in accounting from Touro College and a law degree from Brooklyn Law School. Mr. Stein has a Certificate of Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning.

When he’s not hard at work, Marty enjoys spending time with his family in Brooklyn.

Lee Steinmetz, Partner and Tax Director

Lee Steinmetz, CPA, MBA, is a Partner and Tax Director who joined the firm in 1999. Lee brings over 30 years of experience in the business, specializing in tax and accounting for individuals, small businesses and retirement planning.

Lee is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA).  He is a former Chairman of the Nassau County chapter of the NYSSCPA’s State and Local Taxation and Computer Usage committees, and has served on both its Executive Board and Board of Directors.  Lee has lectured for various business and professional organizations, including the NYSSCPA, and has been quoted in a variety of financial publications.

Lee holds a BBA degree in Accounting from Adelphi University and an MBA in Finance from Hofstra University.

Lee enjoys doing home renovations for himself and his friends on Long Island. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, skiing, playing golf and softball.

Robert E. Paul, Partner

Robert Paul, CFP® is a Partner of the firm.  Robert counsels High Net Worth individuals in all areas of comprehensive financial planning, including: cash flow management, investment allocation and management, retirement planning, insurance and tax planning. Robert’s specialties include working with clients going through major life stage events such as individuals who have become newly independent due to a death or divorce, college funding plans and more.

Prior to joining Joel Isaacson & Co. in 1999, Robert spent two years with Dreyfus Financial Services, working in the Client Service & Sales Group, as well as the Quality Assurance Group. During his time at Dreyfus, Robert obtained the NASD Series 6, Series 7 and Series 63 licenses.

Robert is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) as well as the Knights of Columbus.

He received his BA from the State University of New York at Albany and his Certified Financial Planning license in 2003 after completing his coursework at the College for Financial Planning.

Robert lives on Long Island with his wife and two children.

David Peltz, Partner

David Peltz is a Partner working to provide clients with goal based solutions by delivering value across multiple disciplines.  David is respected by his clients due to his ability to provide the structure and discipline needed to make sound financial decisions, achieve peace of mind, and results, while focusing on long term results.  Using his expertise in estate and tax planning and investment advice, David implements strategies that provide clients with tremendous value beyond just investment returns.

David’s expertise in demystifying complex financial circumstances has been especially useful when working with corporate executives, as his expertise in analyzing benefit plans and maximizing the value of stock options, restricted stock and retirement plans are truly valued.  Some of these underlying strategies include pre IPO planning, gifting and charitable giving strategies, and utilization of Trusts.

David received his BS in Finance from Hofstra University. He holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation and is an active member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).  He is also a board member and the Treasurer of The Possibility Project, a strong example of embodying JICO philanthropic values and giving back to the community.   David, his wife and two children reside in Westchester County

Elizabeth Angebrandt, CAO and Controller

Elizabeth Angebrandt joined the Joel Isaacson team in the Fall of 2010, bringing with her over 20 years of accounting experience. Elizabeth manages the firm’s day-to-day accounting operations. Her roles include providing effective financial controls within our organization, financial reporting & audit responsibilities, and overseeing our client billing and concierge services area.

Elizabeth obtained her BBA in Public Accounting from Hofstra University. She began her career with BDO Seidman in NYC and transitioned into the private sector, spending the majority of her accounting career in the mortgage banking industry as a Controller and liaison with financial and regulatory auditors.

Elizabeth lives on Long Island with her husband & adult children. She comes from a large family and enjoys hosting holidays, entertaining, reading & staying active with local & civic organizations.

Joshua Peltz, Managing Director

Joshua Peltz, CFP® rejoined the firm as a Senior Associate in 2010.  He specializes in positioning himself as the client’s personal CFO, handling planning and advisory activities in concert with a deep appreciation of client objectives.  Josh strategizes with his clients across multiple service needs including investment management, tax and estate planning, insurance, cash flow management, retirement and holistic risk reviews.

Josh’s previous experiences include employment at both Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley, working in private equity and wealth management positions.  He presently resides with his wife on Long Island.

Larry Bolder, Senior Tax Manager

Larry Bolder, CPA, MBA, is a Senior Tax Manager in our tax department.  He has over 15 years of experience as a tax professional.  Larry specializes in tax planning and compliance for high net worth individuals.  He also has extensive accounting and business management experience.

Larry obtained his BA at American University in Washington, DC, and his MBA at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA.  He passed all four parts of the CPA exam at one time. Prior to obtaining his CPA, Larry earned the Enrolled Agent designation offered by the IRS.

In his spare time, Larry enjoys foreign travel with his wife & two daughters, as well as photography, hiking & tennis.

Brian Cummins, Managing Director

Brian Cummins, CFP® began his career at Joel Isaacson & Co. in 2007. He focuses on providing comprehensive financial planning advice for high net worth individuals/ families and his areas of expertise include investment planning and research. Brian is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee.

He received his BBA in Corporate Finance from The City University of New York – Queens College. Brian earned his certificate in Financial Planning through the College for Financial Planning and Baruch College. He is an active member of the Financial Planning Association and serves on the Board of Directors for the New York chapter.

Brian enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons in Hudson Valley, NY.

Zachary McGill, Managing Director

Zachary McGill, CFP® began his career with Joel Isaacson & Co. in 2007. He enjoys providing comprehensive financial and tax planning to high net worth individuals and families. A few of his areas of expertise include advising executives on exercising employee stock awards as well as cash flow management and planning.

Originally from Southern California, Zachary received his BS from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006. He earned his Certified Financial Planner designation in 2011, and is an active member of the Financial Planning Association and The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.

Zachary lives with his wife and young daughter on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and enjoys traveling and outdoor activities.

Michael O'Brien, Director

Michael V. O’Brien, CFP®, joined Joel Isaacson & Co., in 2010. He specializes in working with high net worth individuals and families and provides them with a holistic and comprehensive approach to the financial planning process including investment strategy, insurance and risk management, tax planning, estate planning, and retirement planning. He is a member of the firm’s investment committee and also a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), Financial Planning Association of New York (FPA-NY), and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

Prior to joining the firm, Michael was a forensic accountant and certified fraud examiner in the forensic, litigation, and valuation services (FLVS) division of UHY Advisors. In this role, Michael calculated economic damages for complex commercial litigation and performed sophisticated financial analyses to detect and resolve financial fraud.

Michael received his B.A. in financial economics from Gustavus Adolphus College where he also studied abroad at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom. During college, Michael played on the nationally ranked tennis team. He received his certificate in financial planning from New York University. Michael lives with his wife in Brooklyn and enjoys tennis, travel, art, and gastronomy.

Susan J. Park, Director

Susan began her career at Joel Isaacson & Co. in 2002. Her main areas of expertise include working with clients on their retirement, cash management/budgeting and tax planning. She proves to be a great resource and mentor for others at the firm.

She received her BA in economics at Wesleyan University. She also participated in the 12 College Exchange Program and attended Dartmouth College during her junior year. She interned at the Federal Reserve in the financial structure section, compiling and analyzing bank mergers and acquisitions for the database.
